Update - I am booked to visit Waiheke in July, Itinerary and other helpful details will be announced early August

Pencil these dates Friday 13 Oct - Sun 15 Oct.
Location: Waiheke Island Auckland

So far it looks like we will have 20 attendees

Plans to do some organising while on leave this week did not happen, had my first taste of COVID!
Recovered now.

I'm unfamiliar with Waiheke. After googling I understand the ferry docks in Oneroa. I'm assuming the weekend's activities will be somewhere easily accessible around there? I'm looking at accommodation - it fluctuates wildly in cost.

Yes the ferry docks a short bus trip from Oneroa which is the main township and where I recommend you seek accomodation or on the bus routes. The buses go around the island frequently. It is a volcanic island so quite hilly so for people with mobility issues check your accomodation isn’t up steep steps.
You can buy Hop Cards at Auckland airport which will give you access to all transport.

For those over 65
I am still ascertaining if the free transport. Hop Card is available to international travellers. To access a Senior Hop card you have to go to the ferry building adjacent to where the Waiheke ferry departs from.
More details to follow.

Organisation of this Uncon is nearing the top of my “to do” list.
Can I have a preliminary indication of possible attendance please so I can start thinking about venues.

Email me at annemariebellnzatgmailfullstopcom

I have received a dozen indications of interest - any more please?

I haven’t commented here, but definitely planning on coming.

I'm planning on being there.

I'm not sure.
I've decided to leave Christchurch, the second half of the year, but haven't worked out the details.
A couple of things are still up in the air.

I will pencil you in as a maybe.

I think I can come for at least some of it. Its been a long time since I did anything with bookcrossing.

That’s great be cool to see you

Thanks Anne, I'm really going to try and get there, looks amazing. Thanks for organising

I'll attend and most likely my wife as well.

We (bludanzer22 and I) were just taking bets on that. We figured it would be on your way to or from Addis Ababa or someplace similar. :)

There is now a release zone for the Uncon simply Waiheke Island 2023 Uncon

Thanks for that. Bronwyna and myself have booked our accommodation.

Snap!

Still working on finding flights where we can use our remaining partial flight credits leftover from our canceled trip to Gold Coast 2020. But we are determined to be there, so I booked a place to stay.

Yippee!

Wonderful we look forward to meeting you both

Details to come.

Looking forward to it; supposedly good food and wineries.

I've never been there either, but I think MicCanberra has. Sounds wonderful but we have a clash, we are touring USA at that time.

Such a shame. Because we couldn't travel for so long we have a bank up of travel booked over the next two years.

Ha I hope I myself will be touring New Zealand then and join you guys. Of course it's too far away to say anything.
And Rosie should your grand tour includes Florida, please do let me know, I'd love to meet up with you! And you're welcome to stay at my place.

Oh wow! Thank you, we have some cruises booked to the Caribbean and Mexico from Miami (and I think one from Fort Lauderdale). We are touring from Washington for two weeks to Kentucky, West Virginia, Tennessee, North Carolina. Then up to NY for a few days before cruising down to Miami. It will be our first US trip since 2016. Would love to meet up on one of the change around days in Miami if possible. I'll PM you the dates.

By the way, if you do manage to get to NZ you will absolutely love it. And the NZ bookcrossers are such lovely generous people.

Rosie, if by Washington you mean DC and not "the state of", please contact BCinDC closer to the time of your arrival and we can arrange for a chance to get together with you. (If I am not in OZ/NZ at that time, I will definitely be there.) We are also available to give tips for visiting the area.

Oh thanks, yes Washington DC. And I would love to catch up with any bookcrossers although I'm not sure how much free time we will have as we are doing a coach tour. (Sorry for the delay, I've been overseas the past couple of weeks so missed this)

A few years back we had a couple of the Swedish BookCrossers who came through on a coach tour. We were able to get a few folks to meet up with them at their hotel for coffee and book swaps. It can be done. Let us know.

Yes I will!
(Again, sorry for the delay in responding)

We were there in January. Didn't take much notice of the accommodation, but it's probably best to stay a night either side in Auckland city.
There's a really good ferry and bus network that is incorporated into the Auckland network.
The length of Queen Street was a $2 fare. The network changed to bus card fares only, no cash, because of COVID. This might change back to a combination of cash/card.

Yes I would stay in Auckland either side, but would like to stay on the island for the two nights if possible. It's a forty minute ferry ride I read.

Yes, for the ferry ride length. Concession rides loaded onto bus card.
High frequency commercial ferry and island bus service, that starts early and finishes late.

Absolutely

Terrific, always keen on a wine tour and maybe a game of pétanque would be fun!

Kiwi and I are planning a preparation visit to Waiheke end of October.
Are there any specific things you would like us to find out?

Wine tours - ohh, and maybe a good restaurant for an evening meal.
